For the third consecutive year due to the resounding success since its launch, Doral announced comeback of their community program domingos dmuseo dgratis at the Art Museum of Puerto Rico (MAPR in Spanish). This year, every Sunday during September each Puerto Rican family will be able to visit the museum free of charge; those days they will able to enjoy a great variety of workshops given by recognized Puerto Rican artists, exhibitions, music, and new characters.
“We are very pleased to know that domingos d-museo has turned into a community event awaited by everyone. Being able to once again offer this artistic experience reaffirms our commitment to support and stimulate the development of upcoming local talent”, said Lesbia Blanco, executive vice-president and first administration official of Doral Financial Corporation.
In this third year, domingos dmuseo receives two new live characters: The Gorvernor’s Daughters, inspired by the painting ‘Las Hijas del Gobernador Don Ramón de Castro’ (1797) by José Campeche y Jordán and The Farmer, which comes out of the painting by Augusto Marín, ‘La Agricultura’ (1958). These two characters join the original characters: Francisco Oller, José Campeche, and the Hada Lavanda, created by the artist Pedro Adorno. The paintings at the Museum come to life with these characters acting and educating everyone about our nation’s first teachers and artists.
For the first time, Mercadillo d domingos d museo will serve as a representation of a typical marketplace with picturesque personalities that will show everyone farming and organic products. Those who feel like tasting these products will be able to do so on those days.
“We are very enthusiastic about announcing the return of domingos d-museo. Thanks to Doral, the Art Museum of Puerto Rico is able to simply add more to the educational and cultural programs, which are focused on every member of the family. Because of this, we celebrate and thank Doral for renewing this alliance that will serve once more as a ship to trace the path for the mission of this museum, all in benefit of Puerto Rico”, mentioned Dr. Lourdes Ramos, executive director of the MAPR.
Domingos dmuseo has been characterized for doing something special every Sunday. The themes for this year are: Día de los Abuelos, which will be celebrated Sunday September 5; during this day the workshops and stories will be in honor of these very important figures in the children’s life.
In an effort to create conscience about the fact that we can all make a difference and how important that is, Doral has come up with Día de dar a Otros, which will take place Sunday September 12. There will be a workshop focused on communicating the message about “No a la Trata” in benefit of the Ricky Martin Foundation; it will be offered by Edgardo Larregui, recognized Puerto Rican graffiti artist, who makes his work a community expression.
As part of Día de Dar a Otros, there will be an arts and crafts workshop with positive and motivating messages. Visitors that day will have the opportunity to see an art exhibition in benefit of the Puerto Rican Down Syndrome Foundation; these paintings’ artists are children from this very foundation.
“Following Doral’s mission to have a better life quality in our communities, every Sunday is designed to inspire, educate, and appreciate everything that art provides”. Said Lucienne Gigante, vice-president of public relations and community of Doral.
Sunday September 19, we will be celebrating Día Sonoro with the workshop A son de Plena. The final event of the day will be a concert with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Puerto Rico Arturo Somohano.
Environmental workshops, ecological stories, and a great surprise musical finale will be part of the activities on the last Sunday, September 26.
Every Sunday will have the game Mi Ojo Artístico so that every family can identify paintings in the Museum. There will also be different seminars on these Sundays; Doral will be talking about financial education and Triple-S will be talking about interesting health topics.
Domingos d-museo will have about 50 volunteers from Doral and the MAPR; this also includes the artists, art teachers, coordinators, security personnel, among others. All this is also made possible thanks to allies like El Vocero, Univisión, WKAQ 580, Best Buy, and Triple-S.
